An Introductory Message By Horley Carnival Chairman, Councillor Mike George

Carnival float
Micheal George carnival chairman

Welcome to the 2019 Horley Carnival with Great Moments in History as the theme. The parade will form up in the Victoria Road car park and, leaving at 12.30 pm, travel to the A23 Recreation Ground via the town centre where we expect it to arrive around 1.00 pm. The full parade route can be found in the Horley Carnival programme. The floats will be judged by both the Mayors of Reigate & Banstead and Horley before the parade sets off.

Before joining the parade, two of the four bands will be performing in the pedestrian precinct, or the area outside the Post Office, dependent upon the work being carried out in the pedestrian precinct and outside Costa Coffee.

This year’s arena programme includes the Flyte of Fancy sheepdog show and an Indian dance group from Crawley, whilst in the grounds will be the Kidsroam petting farm and tractor rides.

Returning favourites will be the interactive characters from Animatronic, Tom’s Talking Reptiles, Owls about Town, Punch and Judy and the model railway. Appearing for the second year running will be our local Army Reserves both in the parade and in the grounds.

Sponsored and organised by Beach’s Funfair, the evening fireworks display will start at approximately 9.45 pm. There will be no entry charge to attend.

I would like to acknowledge the hard work put in by the organising team which has comprised Horley Lions, 41 Club, MAD Ideas, Susy Radio, Horley Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and Alex Goddard.

Please take the time to visit the many stalls around the ground, many of which are from these and other community groups.

The list of parade participants, arena events and stall holders was correct at the time of this text being included on the Horley Carnival website, and is subject to later additions and cancellations.

A limited amount of space will be available on the ground for disabled parking but the recreational ground’s car park will not be available from the previous evening and Saturday whilst the Carnival is underway.

Our headline sponsor is Gatwick Airport Ltd, and as in past years, this year’s Carnival is the result of the hard work over many months by several community groups, assisted by our sponsors, so come along and enjoy the sounds and sights of the Horley Carnival.

I would like to thank our many sponsors who include Gatwick Airport Ltd, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council Councillors and those local companies and individuals listed in the ‘thank you ‘page.

Thank you for supporting your Carnival.

Councillor Mike George – Chairman of the Horley Carnival
